Between heaven and earth, enjoying the tranquility of indigenous communities

Between heaven and earth, under the care of the mountains and ancestral spirits, there are gentle breezes. Nourish your soul and feel comforted. As you focus on pottery making, feel free to hum or let your heart and hands unite as you weave. Leave your busy life behind and breathe with nature. Balance body and mind and become immersed in the slow and gentle pace of life in an indigenous community.

Enter a mountain forest, embrace nature

Hunting is a solitary pursuit. Hunters set off into the mountains, hunt, and return. They observe traces of wild animal activity or receive messages from the forest and ancestral spirits that are meant to protect them and ensure a successful hunt. As part of the dining experience in the indigenous Bunun community of Yongkang, travelers are invited to walk a hunting trail, spend time in a mountain forest, throw a spear, and shoot arrows. Moreover, they can listen as hunters and their family members call to one another, filled with joy as they reunite after a successful hunt.

A cup of tea, a feeling, a moment of peace

Recenter yourself and ask the ancestral spirits for help with your career, protection for your family, and understanding about how to live a fulfilling life.

Take part in a “wild” hunting experience

Hunting may be something unimaginable to many people, but it is a common event in indigenous communities. Walk along a hunting trail and learn about the rules and taboos of hunting in mountain forests, as well as traditional dream divination of the Bunun tribe. At the end of the trail are archery and spear throwing experiences, so that you can evaluate your hunting skills.

Moonlight Hunters’ picnic table-The joy of a family reunited after a hunt

This year, the Yongkang Community’s dining experience theme is wild game. It includes salted grilled pork with wood roasted pineapple and lightly seasoned charcoal-grilled ribs. In addition to these entrees, there is a traditional vegetable platter served with prickly ash leaf salt and prickly ash leaves and chili peppers. A call-and-response session starts the meal, to let travelers feel the joy of hunters as they reunite with their family members.
