Taste of Native Cuisines, The Journey to Tribes is celebrating its ninth year, and six beloved community classics are making their return!

This year, we’re putting together a Red Honor Roll of the East Longitudinal Valley, celebrating the dishes, traditions, and experiences that communities are proud to call their own.

Some have won us over with unforgettable flavors.
Some have become classics through generations of cultural knowledge.
And some simply bring a bold and generous spirit that you can only experience here.

Different communities, different stories, but every one of them has earned its place on the list.

So come hungry and follow the Red Honor Roll from community to community. Taste the land, hear the stories, and discover six experiences shaped by memory, tradition, and the people who keep them alive.

The Pride of Yongkang Shines Bright!

Come to Yongkang and experience community life the local way.

Follow Bunun hunters deep into the forest trails and discover the knowledge, customs, and traditions behind hunting culture. Pick up a bow, try your hand at spear throwing, experience pasibutbut and malastapan, the traditional recountings of hunting achievements, then roll up your sleeves and join everyone in pounding chewy turmeric mochi.

Once all that adventure has worked up an appetite, it is time to feast. Local Bunun specialties, millet rice with salted fish, charcoal grilled meat skewers, and pigeon pea & pork rib soup are waiting at the table, each carrying the flavors of the mountains and the everyday life of Sunungsung (Yongkang).

Here, stories are shared over food, and culture is discovered through doing. Come hungry, play hard, eat well, and leave with plenty of stories of your own.

Mt. Yongling rises behind Yongkang Community and has long served as an important route into the hunting grounds. Follow a community hunter along winding animal trails and discover the customs, rules, and taboos that guide Bunun hunting culture. Try archery and spear throwing for yourself, and experience the mountains through the knowledge of the people who have lived alongside them for generations.

It is a warm gathering filled with food, stories, laughter, and the feeling of being welcomed like family. A feast for both the palate and the ears.

Pound Turmeric Mochi Together: A Warm Welcome from Bunun Friends

When friends come to visit, the Bunun know how to make them feel at home. A traditional mortar and pestle are brought out, and everyone gathers together to make mochi. Join in the rhythmic pounding, taste a different kind of mochi, and experience a simple but heartfelt expression of Bunun hospitality.

Fee	NT$2,200 per person Children aged 0 to 6 may participate free of charge. Meals, activities, complimentary gifts, and insurance are not included for free admission. Participants aged 7 and above are charged the full fee.
The Fee Includes	Shuttle from the train station to the community, meal, musical perform, tour guide and activity, souvenir , group insurance.

Reminders	1.Most activities take place outdoors. We recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and comfortable closed toe shoes suitable for walking. 2.Please bring your own reusable water bottle to help reduce waste. 3.Indigenous millet brew will be served during the event. Please drink responsibly and according to your own condition. Excessive alcohol consumption is harmful to your health. Minors must not consume alcohol, and please do not drink and drive. 4.The times listed in the itinerary are for reference only. The schedule and activity order may be adjusted depending on traffic conditions and actual on site circumstances. 5.Shuttle vehicles will be assigned according to the number of participants on the day. Seating is open and cannot be reserved in advance. 6.When registering, please provide your offical name, date of birth, and ID number for insurance purposes. 7.Please arrive on time on the day of the event. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated and are not eligible for refunds. 8.In the event of natural disasters or other circumstances beyond the organizer’s control, the organizer reserves the right to adjust or modify the program. Any cancellation and follow up arrangements will be announced on the official Facebook page by 8:00 PM on the day before the event. 9.All event photos are for reference only. Actual activities and arrangements are subject to on site conditions.
Refund Policy	Cancellations made 21 days or more before the selected event date are subject to a 10% handling fee. Cancellations made 4 to 20 days before the selected event date are subject to a 30% handling fee. Cancellations made 0 to 3 days before the selected event date are non refundable.
