Between heaven and earth,
enjoying the tranquility of indigenous communities

Between heaven and earth, under the care of the mountains and ancestral spirits, there are gentle breezes. Nourish your soul and feel comforted. As you focus on pottery making, feel free to hum or let your heart and hands unite as you weave. Leave your busy life behind and breathe with nature. Balance body and mind and become immersed in the slow and gentle pace of life in an indigenous community.

Weaving brings a sense of belonging

Women of the Truku tribe weave almost their entire lives, sketching rhombus patterns to awaken the intangible power of the eyes of the ancestral spirits or family crests that represent the prowess of and unite their families. Weaving represents heartfelt blessings and connections with the ancestors to bring a sense of belonging. This year, the Ciyakang Community’s dining experience invites travelers to weave. The dining table features colorful woven items to draw attention to the connection between weaving and indigenous community life.

A cup of tea, a feeling, a moment of peace

Start by introducing yourself and greeting the ancestral spirits. With a cup of tea in hand, enjoy a moment of peace. Let your inner self connect with divine spirits. Recenter yourself and ask the ancestral spirits for help with your career, protection for your family, and understanding about how to live a fulfilling life.

Card weaving, focusing the mind and spirit

The collection and dyeing of fibers for weaving provide a glimpse into the historical and cultural contexts of this indigenous community. Flat and brocade weaving techniques are taught so that everyone can weave their own table decoration. Using natural materials, become focused as you work, your hands connecting with your heart, and respond to heaven and earth.

Work hut moonlight dining – A delicious meal based on the story of weaving

Traditional weaving patterns and dyed fibers are the design inspiration for this year’s Ciyakang Community’s dining experience. The main dishes are cleverly made using millet, corn, and Formosan quinoa to present the traditional color scheme of black, cream, and red. Cassava and chicken soup is based on fond memories of Yawas cooking it in the work hut after learning how to dye fibers from her grandmother. This sumptuous meal is based on weaving stories.
